Grades 1 to 5

Elementary

Where Montessori independence meets Texas academic rigor, in a classroom shaped by Islamic character and faith.

About this program

The Elementary program at NAML Academy builds on the Montessori foundations of Little Scholars and takes students into deeper academic territory. Grades 1 through 5 follow Texas state curriculum standards while retaining the hallmarks of Montessori learning: extended work periods, student agency, and multi-age collaboration.

Islamic Studies and Arabic are part of every student's schedule, not optional add-ons. We aim for students who leave 5th grade as strong readers and thinkers, confident in their identity as Muslims, and ready for the demands of middle school.

What students study

Core academics follow Texas state standards across Math, Science, English Language Arts, and Social Studies. Instruction is delivered with continued Montessori work cycles that give students extended time for deep focus and self-directed inquiry alongside direct teaching.

Islamic Education is a daily part of the schedule, covering Quran recitation and Tajweed, Arabic language, and Islamic Studies. Students do not choose between their deen and their academics; they pursue both together throughout the school day.

Project-based learning units connect subjects across disciplines, and Physical Education is integrated into the weekly schedule alongside broader character development. The two reinforce each other: a student who learns to persist through a challenging math problem is practicing the same virtue as one who pushes through a hard week of Quran review.

A typical school day

The day opens with morning assembly: Quran recitation, school announcements, and a group dua. Students then move into the core academics block, covering Math and Language Arts with Texas-aligned instruction. A Montessori work period follows, giving students self-directed study time with teacher check-ins. After Islamic Studies or Arabic class, students break for lunch and outdoor time. The afternoon brings Science, Social Studies, or enrichment such as PE or project work.
